Haelen is an Old English word which means to heal, from the same root word as health or wholeness. Our ambition is to raise  and provide food in keeping with those words and, ultimately, for our labors to contribute to your wholeness.

Warren manages and operates our small farm when not doing top secret work at his day job. He is an avid reader, and stumbled across this idea of pastured poultry one day, and devoured everything he could on the subject until it became a reality. He grew up in Southwestern VA and enjoys living near two of his siblings and their children, and his parents. He has three hobbies, soon to be four come early next year. They range in age from 6 to 2 1/2 years old, and tend to lighten things up around our place. He also appreciates well-made beer, and in the old days used to make his own fine brew. His wife hopes he will get back to that one day.

Brite, wife of Warren, never knew she would have “Farmer’s Wife” as a future title. When she married him he was running a hip coffee shop in downtown Chattanooga. But life isn’t all that different now. We still appreciate good food and drink, and like to be close to the source (or in this case, have the source in our backyard). She oversees marketing and public relations, and if it weren’t for her need for good, clean food, I’m not sure this operation would be rolling full steam ahead. But alas, allergies required our family to leave behind preservatives and additives, and we’ve never looked back (okay, sometimes on trips we stop at Chick-fil-A, but don’t tell our chickens).

We found a double-yolk egg when I was preparing breakfast! Haha!
